My Cat Digit!!!

I have four cats. Digit is now almost 12 years old. I selected her from a littler of kittens from a private home. I will never forget her mother. She was so ugly with huge ears. She was one those cats that looked like someone had dumped a bucket of orange paint on the floor and it had splattered all over her formerly black coat. She had a litter of four. All of the kittens were beautiful little Tuxedo cats. I thought to myself, "Well, I certainly know what the father of these kittens looked like."

One of the little kittens was extra playful and curious. She was less shy than the others. Well, to make a long story short, I fell in love with her.

She has turned out to be a strange animal. She is partial to me. She is somewhat distant. She was a good little actor when I selected her. When she wants her attention she will come and stand on top of my foot if I am standing or just jumps up into my lap if I am sitting. She really won't let you hold her. If you hold her she has to be just standing on your hands and totally free and unrestrained. I know that feeling as I am a bit claustrophobic.

A couple of her habits that have never changed is that as soon as we put heads to pillows at night, she starts playing and romping through the house making as much noise as she possibly can. And, also I would often walk into the bedroom to find a lump under the bedspread. It was she.

Digit started dropping weight at an alarming rate. She was diagnosed with diabetes. She must get two shots a day of insulin for the rest of her life. It has changed the way we live and has really tied us down, but she is worth it to us. Finally, after many months we finally have her stable and she has regained to her original weight. She has lost some of her motor control and is a bit awkward when she runs, but the brightness has returned to her eyes and that makes it all worthwhile.

  4. Your kitty is so cute. I hope she will be feeling better really soon. Thank God she has you to care for her.

Aren't cats so different in their personalities? I love kitties as you already know.

  5. What a beautiful cat you have there, Carole! Our Stanzi doesn't like being held either though she does like sitting on your lap when she's feeling affectionate.

So glad you have got Digit stabilised, it must have been such a worry when she started losing weight. She's a lucky cat having you to look after her. We are the same, we will do absolutely anything for our kitties!
