I am upset about the fact that no clergy or prayer is to be included in the 9-11 memorial tomorrow. Today I find out that no firemen or policemen have been invited either. What has happened to America in 10 years? It is like they did more than attack us because ultimately they have destroyed the basic fiber of our culture. When I was in Washington, DC recently, I had the privilege of seeing our original flag. The story behind it is amazing....."and the flag was still there." Unfortunately, we were not allowed to photograph this beautiful tattered flag. It was huge for one thing. There are some holes. It is, of course, all hand sewn. Take my word for it. It easily brought me to tears. Give thanks for our beautiful country and for our traditions that this country was founded upon. Don't ever let anyone or anything change this wonderful country of ours which was founded on blood, love, freedom, and God.

Pentagon Memorial.

One of the best memorials and most moving for me was the one set up at the pentagon for those died there on 9-11. It was so well thought out. Just very simple and peaceful....a zen quality. If you faced the pentagon the names on the benches were those who died in the pentagon. If you faced away from the pentagon the names were those who died in the airplane. Cantelever benches represented each person who died.

Water flowed under each bench.

At the perimeter of the site there are blocks with the year each person who died was born. This flag was put there.

You can see how the names are put on the bench and the water below each bench.

I recently took a cruise. The focus of the cruise was scrapbooking. While there I met two ladies who make cards for the troops. I was intrigued. As soon as I got home, I started making cards too.

The focus of this operation is to send hand-made cards to the troops so that they in turn can write back home to their friends and family. It makes it so much easier for them to do this. Can you imagine how thrilled their family and friends are when they receive hand-made cards from their loved ones.

This is a wave rider. Yep they had the water going so you can surf on board the ship.

This is duct tape paper. It runs about 2 dollars a sheet. More goodies for us. There was a competition and I saw a lovely wedding dress made totally from duct tape.

Liberty of the Seas Cruise!

We went on a scrapbooking cruise put on by Michael's. It was great fun. We crafted all day on the days we were at sea. However, I missed the open time as I took three excursions on each day we were in port.

But we brought home tons of product including a roller bag. We also met some great people. Two girls were from Washington DC area and two were from Wisconsin. They were great fun and we shared a lot of great ideas.

1. This is part of the ship sitting in Miami. It was huge. We were in a balcony room which was wonderful. First time for me to have a balcony and it just makes all of the difference in the world.

This was taken from my balcony looking toward the front of the ship. Our cabin was right in the center of the ship so this might help you to imagine how large it is. We were on deck 7 and there were 14 decks.

in January. All my pendants are on sale for 50 % off the price marked in my shop. I want to clear out as many as possible, so I do not have to transfer many back to my other shop.

The pendants are made with vintage Rummikub tiles which are heavy compared to the plastic ones you find now. In addition, I have added a very large sterling silver bale to accommodate most chains or ribbons. It is a heck of a deal.

December Excitement!! Well, I Could Have Missed This.

Well, had a little excitement tonight. We were parked at Racetrack. Allan was outside putting gas in and I was in the car.

I noticed the guy in front of me was wearing a strange hooded Jacket. It was black and grey and had disaster headlines and I was wondering what kind of person would wear that. It said, "Large Quake Hit...." and "Zeppelin crashes and kills...."that sort of thing like newspaper headlines.

Then, I see this long haired woman running from the store with two employees shouting at her and she was shouting to the guy who was driving the truck in front of me who had gotten back in. I heard, "Let's get out of here." Suffice it to say, the front was clear put he chose to back right into our car. They took off, the police came.

Minor damage to our bumper. We had just been to a nice pleasant dinner. Now my steak is a tight knot in my stomach. The policeman did not even want the description of his distinctive jacket.......can you believe it? Before we left we heard there had been another shoplifting by someone driving a similar vehicle. I am just glad they were not sporting guns.

Here is what Kathy got. The shiny rectangles are the sleeves you slip the ACEOs into.

1. You can go shopping in any city in the world. Where are you going and what will you buy?

Assuming I had all the money in the world, I would choose Paris, France. After all, it is famous for shopping. I would probably buy a home in one of the towns I grew up in as a child.
2. Your favorite dessert has no calories! What will you eat?

One of my favorite desserts is Carrot Cake and Creme Brule. That would be a hard choice.

3. What character from a book would you like to come to life so that you could spend an afternoon with him or her (or it!)?

I would like to bring Atticus Finch to life from To Kill a Mockingbird, especially if he looked like Gregory Peck. Such a handsome man who loved his family and who had great wisdom as well. He also was a man who cared about the people around him.
4. You can have any famous museum painting in the world. Which one will hang in your home?

Water Lillies by Claude Monet. I am a water person and I was always drawn to this series of paintings. I think it brought to mind a place to escape to, a place to rejuvinate.

What Critters Are in Your Yard?

Yesterday, I was sitting in my office. I have a corner window that looks out to my bird feeder which hangs 20 ft. above the ground and is on a pulley system hanging from a tree.

I normally have birds and squirrels.

This is what I saw:

The white line is the rope that is holding up the bird feeder. By the time I grabbed my camera he was already headed down, frustrated. The branch the feeder is hanging from was too small to support his weight.

Here he is even further down. These photos were taken through the sunny window. Notice the knot. He stopped there and tried to undo the knot. Now how did that raccoon know that if he undid the knot the bird feeder would drop to the ground?

I ran out unto my deck and to my surprise found two more raccoons starting up at me, but they took off running.

This fellow stood his ground thus allowing me to get three good shots.

So that was my exciting adventure for the day. :)

Some Things Along the Banks of the St. John's River!

This is an interesting plant. I don't know what it is. I am not much of a botanist.

And then there is this. What a strange fruit or whatever hanging down from a tree.

I know what these are. These are cypress knees.

There are river people who put of shacks of a sort along the more secluded parts of the river.

The wild life on this river is wonderful. Birds, Alligators, turtles, etc.

This is an old branch of the river. You go down this and you have left the 21st century.

Spanish moss all over the trees. Early 1900's Spanish Moss was used to stuff mattresses. It is loaded with bugs though...thus the saying...don't let the bed bugs bite. It was given the name Spanish Moss as it supposedly resembles the beards of the spaniards who settled Florida.

I love the trees in Florida....especially the large oaks.

This is a bridge that crosses the river. One county is on one end and another county at the other.

Butterfly Delight!

This was a fun shot. This butterfly just would not leave this lady's leg. My guess is she had on a very appealing lotion.

This fellow looked a little worse for wear.

Isn't this a beauty. By the way if you are wondering where I am....well I am at the University of Florida Butterfly Home in Gainesville, Florida. It is basically a three story screened in area where you can sit among these beautiful butterflies. There are lush gardens too.

Blue Springs State Park, Orange City, FL

Blue Springs is where Jacques Cousteau made his documentary on the manetees. I live 5 minutes from here. I am a lucky girl. The temperature of this water stays at 72 degrees year around.

Each November the manatees come into springs to seek the warmer waters of the springs. It is quite the event. Thousands of tourists come to watch the manates.

At some point in the past history of the place, the home shown belonged to a private landowner. It was an excellent location to get deliveries from the paddle wheelers coming down the St. Johns River. If you ever get a chance to come and visit this wonderful place, who knows you might just run into me. :)

My Great Aceo Holder!

This can be purchased from PaperWishes.com.

Search using ATC Holder or Hanger.

It costs $30.00 plus the hangers which come in packages of 25 for under $5.00 each...can't remember exact price. The holder comes with the first 25 hangers. There is an even larger size available but it is meant for hanging up stickers and embellishments for scrapbooking and it is more expensive.

This piece measures about 18 inches high and at the widest point about 12 inches. These are approximations.

All three rings or levels turn and the hangers move easily on the ring itself. Each ring is divided into four sections so that you can categorize your ACEOS if you like.

I got tired of never seeing my collection because it was always in a book. I have select pieces displayed around my house but this constantly reminds me what I have.

There are approximately 100 aceos hanging on this and there is room for a lot more. I just ordered another 100 hangers. I hope I can get them all on, but if not I will probably buy another one.

For taking the photos, I placed it on top of a box but I actually have it sitting right next to me on a table so that I can reach out and twirl it whenever I like.

When you first get the hangers they are very stiff. I had to use needle nose pliers to open them. That worked great. Enjoy!

Branson Trip!

I had a wonderful time in Branson. I had been wanting to go for years and years. These are the shows I experienced but this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The shows were fabulous.

Lobby of one of the theaters..this is where I saw Noah. Noah was amazing. At one point we were inside of the arc and surrounded on three sides by live animals, mechanical animals, in real time size of the arc as stated by the bible. Plus the animals would come from the back and walk down all of the aisles right beside you. AMAZING.

That was the beautiful entry way to this great ship.

All of the shows love audience participation. This old lady was dancing and waving her napkin above her head. This was a dinner show.

Inside this theater is the most beautiful bathroom in the USA. It was incredible.

I had not seen my friend in 38 years.

This is me with one of the performers on the showboat. He joked with me throughout the performance because I had asked a really dumb question when he called for questions...LOL...he even presented me with a poodle balloon he had made for me. During intermission I was taking photos and he was right beside me. Linda pointed it out.

This is Table Rock Lake.

I think what I appreciated most about Branson is I felt very comfortable in their love of God, love of country, and love of family. Each performance there was something done in honor of all veterans. This is a place where people do not avoid saying God, Christ, and Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays.

This is Branson Landing where the fountain play to music punctuated by fire. Really neat. This is where the modern outdoor mall was. Not two blocks from here is where you will find the old town and Dick's 5 and 10. I had a ball there. It was retro and frankly just amazing. I wish I had had an extra suitcase. I could have gotten all my Christmas shopping done.

My Motto is Never Forget 9-11!

Nine years ago today our lives changed forever. I am sure each and every one of us can say what we were doing the moment we found out we had been attacked in such a horrific manner.

Only one other time in my life will I never forget what I was doing at a certain moment and that was the assassination of President John Kennedy.

For Kennedy, I was in my 11th grade history class when we heard the news. School was closed and we were all sent home. I cried for days.

On 9-11, I had not been watching TV and my husband called me and told me to sit down. I was in shock. I turned on the TV and lived there for the next three days..again crying my eyes out.

God Bless each and every soul who died in the three plane crashes. God Bless each and every member of their families who have suffered so. God Bless America!!

Grizzy made her greatest journey today!

My beautiful all gray kitty was put to sleep today. She was 17 years old. I feel like a part of me is missing as she was like an appendage. She was my cat. She almost always was sitting in my lap. After we buried her today, I sat down in my computer chair and burst into tears. It hit me that she would never ever sit in my lap again. I have a stuffed animal cat that resembles Grizzy. I immediately went and got it and it is sitting in my lap as I type. I feel so much better.

My husband is very torn apart as well. We buried her today in the back yard. We wrapped her in my nightgown that had not been washed so she could smell me and we put a little stuffed mouse in there with her so she would have a toy. We put her bed in the bottom of the grave and placed her in it. We put her by a plant in our backyard. She truly was a wonderful cat.

She will be sorely missed.

--About the Two Bit Artist--

Q: Who am I?

A: I'm an artist and photographer from Raleigh, North Carolina.

Q: What's the deal with my store?

A: I'm not really here to make money. Each of my prints and photographs are listed at $2.00 to cover the cost of materials and fees. I just have a passion for sharing my work with fellow artisans.

Q: Why are my prints so small?

A: All of my prints are small format, either ACEO (2.5"x3.5") or smaller. The ACEO format (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) really intrigues me. I like the idea of artwork specifically meant to be affordable and tradeable. Small format art allows casual collectors to purchase unique works of art without breaking the bank.

A: Each print is mounted on a 1/8" thick piece of masonite. The masonite backing gives the artwork durability and weight. It also allows the piece to be displayed as-is. I have lots of these pieces scattered around my house for guests to look at and talk about.

Q: Will I sell a particular print in a larger format?

A: Absolutely. If you see a print in my store that you'd like in a larger size, please send me a message and I'd be glad to accommodate.

Today I am featuring Raedawn (Linda). I am adding a new feature to my Sunday Selections and here it is:

Bio:

My beading journey began after working for years as a visual artist. Then my daughter, Amy, started beading and I was hooked. I learned the basics from her, and never looked back (except, of course, at her continued beautiful work). My visual art had evolved over time into work that is highly symbolic, and grounded in archetypal and symbolic imagery. My beadwork led me to explore these same themes..

I grew up and lived most of my life in Maryland, but a short “sabbatical” in Ontario, Oregon, and a longer one in Silver City, New Mexico, had a definite influence on my work. My current jewelry includes themes that are primal/mythic, romantic/decorative, contemporary, and southwestern.

My jewelry has been sold in several emporiums in Maryland and shown in many galleries in New Mexico and Oregon. It also has been shown, alongside my visual art, in a variety of venues. After moving to Lowell, Massachusetts, I am currently focusing on the wider audience that the internet provides to share my jewelry. And yes, I am still active as a visual artist.

I love to combine seemingly disparate elements. For example, I love to pair semi-precious stones and glass; large chunky nuggets with tiny Swarovski crystals; coral and bone with sterling silver accents. It enchants me to combine these different elements, and I am always surprised at where my jewelry leads me. I never met a bead I didn’t like.

Beading is a journey, as is art. I never know when something will inspire me to go into unfamiliar territory, and I love branching out to use new forms of jewelry making. For example, I recently combined shiny faceted Czech glass beads, highly deco, with long pieces of tied rice paper for a look I’m not sure how to describe yet (except that it follows my love of mixed media art). And as a journey, working on each piece, whether it be a necklace or a pair of earrings, is a wonderful experience. It’s this experience of mystery and joy that I want my jewelry to convey to you.

I hope you enjoy visiting my shop and sharing parts of my journey. Maybe you will find something that can add uniquely to your own journey.

I love the work I see in Linda's shop. And my favorite part of her shop are her mixed-media hanging art. I happen to love symbolism and her work touches my heart. Her jewelry is also exceptional.

The footprint in the sand kind of symbolizes to me the encroachment of humans on nature. The Holes show the sand in its natural state.

We all know that people are continuing to encroach on nature and natural habitats. Here in my area it is quite common now to see bears walking around or up in trees in the middle of a community.

Do you know of a similar situation in your area?

Don't get me wrong....I love enjoying nature ....without that we would probably all be in trouble. But I do believe in preserving some areas for wildlife. :)

Here you are looking at the very wide comfortable strap.

Here you are looking into the main compartment of the bag and this has a zipper closing. On the right is one lens and in the middle is the other lens. Where my hand is is where my camera should go but I am taking this photo with it.:)

Now I am showing you where the camera goes with one lens attached to it. It is a nice big hole.

This is the front of the bag underneath the flap. There are 5 to 6 different zipper pockets. In addition, you can see the large side pocket on the right. I put my battery recharger in there.

Are You a Purse and Bag Freak Like Me?

By the way I just bought an llbean messenger bag (Medium) which fits my camera and my three lenses perfectly plus the little accessories. Got my initials on it too. My real camera bag has more padding but the shape is awkward and I cannot carry all of my lenses. Don't forget my little tip for you photographers out there....put your lenses inside of those big fuzzy socks you can buy for slippers. Works great. I have the larger type camera...a Cannon Rebel something or other....can't remember the numbers.

Oh being a messenger bag it is great because it has a really great padded strap, a cell phone pocket on the strap and also a purse kind of areas with zipper pockets and ID place. Also has a nice size side pocket and a all the way across the back pocket for papers and photo book etc....and it hangs in front so it is easy to get in and out of when you are on the go changing lenses.

Here are my latest editions of Mosaic Glass Pendants. Just plain yummy colors! I have been looking at these colors...at least on my monitor and they are not coming out true. The real colors are more neutral, beige, and brownish. The photos show them more reddish than in reality.

Custom Work for Pendants

This pendant sold today which made me very happy. :) I found it interesting that this person wanted originally a custom piece. That got me thinking.

I am willing to do a custom pendant for you. If you have an image you would like on a pendant, I would love to create a pendant for you. I do have a Mac so not sure if that would be a problem. I don't think it would be.

Maybe you have a favorite photo or a piece of your art work you would like to wear around your neck. Well, just kind of thinking........

Unfortunately, custom work would cost a bit more. I could probably do it for around $15.00.

Any suggestions or input about this idea?

I highly recommend this movie. I went thinking it would be totally corny but the fact is it was done very well and is good for adults as well as kids. It really was amazing!!!

Home Improvements Well on the Way!

I told you that I was painting my master bedroom and bath. The bedroom is complete but I am still working on accessories. When it is done I will post a photograph so you can see the colors I selected.

Now we just contracted to have the outside of the house painted. I cannot wait!!! It has not been painted in 10 years and really needs to be spruced up a bit. We are trying to decide between blue and green. Again....eventually I will put up a before and after photo for you.

I have been really busy lately just with life. Now that summer is here, I will have my granddaughter two days a week with an overnight. That will consume a lot of my time but I can't wait. It starts tomorrow.

I come from a family of military men. My father had an Air Force career. My middle brother had an Army career. My oldest brother had an Army career and graduated from West Point. My husband had an Air Force career.

My father served as a transport pilot in WWII, flying C-130's.

Both of my brothers served in Vietnam. One was a tank commander and one as a Hughy helicopter pilot. One served one term and one served two terms in Vietnam.

My husband also was a pilot during Vietnam. He flew missions out of the Phillipines. His plane was the A-10 Warthog fighter.

So, I would first like the thank all of the men in my family for their service to our country. I could throw in a cousin or two as well.:)

Today, I would like to thank all the brave men and women who are now fighting for our country. And, how do you even begin to thank the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for this country. Their deaths cannot be in vain.

I feel like we are losing our country, our traditions, our way of life.....like it is all slipping away. Please, God, help us to keep this country as its founders envisioned. Americans are strong and generous and full of pioneering spirit. We are a nation of immigrants....legal immigrants.... who wanted nothing more than to assimilate into our culture.

Now, most people entering the country want to destroy our culture and replace it with their own. Thank you, God, for the men and women who were willing to die to keep this country free and strong and the same. Dear God, help us to survive as a country and preserve our way of life.

Here I go:

1. What is the one thing you have never done that you still want to do?

Well, this may surprise you but it is to see two old friends in particular. One was my boyfriend when I was 16 and 17 years old. Secondly, a girlfriend from the same age period. I know where one is but not the other.

2. What is your favorite way to relax?

My favorite way to relax is to travel.....even if it only to a local beach, for instance. But getting away is the key to me relaxing. But if I am not traveling and I am stuck at home then I would say it is to get together with some girlfriends and got out to lunch and then go shopping.

3. If you could have anything you wanted to eat with no negative effects like calories etc. what would you choose?

I would choose bread. In particular, I would choose French bread with a chocolate bar in the middle. It is wonderful!

4. Would you rather paint, draw, sew, quilt, write, take pictures?

Two of these choices would top my list. I am a published poet so I love to write and I would love to publish a novel someday. I love to take pictures is my second choice.

5. You are in the largest Boutique in the world and can pick one item free, what would you take home with you?

It would probably be a piece of jewelry, a pair of shoes, or a purse.

6. What is your dream vacation?

I would love to take a trip around the world with a man who loved to travel and who loved me with all of his heart and who would make the vacation one I would remember forever. But since that is never going to happen....LOL....I would travel with a friend to Australia and spend at least three months there.
